One of the loveliest holidays in our calendar is Thanksgiving: when we all take a moment to reflect on the abundance in our lives. (And of course, eating ourselves into a food coma is a nice perk to the holiday.)
I asked FinCon participants on FaceBook about what they are thankful for this year. Here are their responses:
Todd Tresidder of Financial Mentor: At the top of the list, I’m thankful for my health and my family’s health because it is the foundation on which everything else in life stands on. Without health everything else would change for the worse. I no longer take our health for granted like I used to having almost lost it in recent years. I’m thankful for my two lovely daughters who bring so much more to my life than I ever imagined when I became a father. I’m thankful for my wife who is truly a partner in life on many levels and in many ways. Finally, I’m thankful for this brief time on Earth to play the game of life full-out – both in business and in personal growth to become all I can be during this brief journey. It is a fantastic adventure that I don’t spend enough time acknowledging.
Roger Wohlner of The Chicago Financial Planner: I am thankful that all five of us will be gathered around the same table and will be together under one roof for a few days. As our kids move into adulthood these family gatherings are increasingly rare and I treasure each and every one of them.
Jackie Beck of The Debt Myth: In addition to constantly being grateful for my family, I’m thankful for the opportunity to change people’s lives for the better.
Stephanie Halligan of Empowered Dollar: I’m grateful for feeling wealthy everyday (and it has nothing to do with money!). I have my health, a supportive, loving family, wonderful friends and a great career. I couldn’t ask for more!
Miranda Marquit of Planting Money Seeds: I’m grateful to work for such awesome clients.
John Wedding of Mighty Bargain Hunter: I’m very thankful for my job, and for my family, and for my friends. They’re all gifts from God.
Jay Monee of Budgets Are Sexy: I’m grateful that our baby came out nice and healthy, and that his parents get to spend so much time with him!
Kay Bell of Don’t Mess With Taxes: I’m so thankful for my husband’s support that lets me write about things that I hope are helping others.
Peter Anderson of Bible Money Matters: I’m thankful that I have a great job, a perfect second job (blog), and that I’ve got a wonderful family!
Ryan Paredez, author of the former Planwise blog: I’m thankful for the opportunities I have been given in life with moving to San Francisco, my friends, family and my health.
Joan Concilio Otto of Man vs. Debt: I am INCREDIBLY thankful for our financial changes in the past two years that have allowed me to quit a draining corporate job to work from home as the editor for Man Vs. Debt and begin homeschooling our 12-year-old daughter!
Abby Freedman Perry of I Pick Up Pennies: I’m thankful for a few things. I have an amazing, stable job that allows me to work, despite health conditions. I have the love and support of my husband and his family (and, of course, mine). And, despite still struggling with a little debt, we’re on our way to having a real emergency fund!
Karen of Money Saving Enthusiast: I’m truly thankful to have a home. My grandmother use to say if you have a roof over your head and food in your belly, you’re not doing so bad.
Adam Piplica of Magical Penny: I’m thankful I have such an incredibly rich and diverse set of friends around the world, and that I’ve had the means and opportunities to cultivate these relationships. They are my true riches in this life.
Doug Nordman of The Military Guide: I’m thankful for a lot of things like my spouse & daughter, but almost everything else that I’m thankful for has flowed from having financial independence. And in the theme of being thankful, my Thanksgiving post is about philanthropy.
Ben Edwards of Money Smart Life: I’m thankful that we planned ahead financially so my wife can stay at home with our kids. They grow up so quickly, she knew she wanted to be at home with them in their early years. It always makes me smile when I leave for work and they’re all huddled around her on the couch, listening intently as she reads their favorite books
Beverly Blair Harzog: I’m grateful for my family because without them, nothing else would matter. I’m also thankful that I have an opportunity every day to help people make better choices in their credit lives.
LaTisha D. Styles of Young Finances: I’m thankful that my family is still alive and well and that each year we get to spend time together. I’m grateful that even though finances may be tight with some family members still lacking full time employment we always pull together and support each other through it.
Bob Lotich of Christian PF: I’m thankful that for as much as most of us complain about the government and politics, we still have a pretty amazing free country that we get to live in.
Jeff Fruhwirth of Sustainable Life Blog: I am thankful for my new wife. It is awesome to be married to such a great person.
Philip Taylor of PTMoney: I’m thankful for such an awesome group of online friends in the financial blogging community. Because of them I don’t have to ‘go it alone.’
Briana Melissa Myricks of How’s Married Life: I am thankful that we have such a strong community of people who are always there when one of us is down.
Tracie Richmond Fobes of Penny Pinchin Mom: I am thankful for so much that it is difficult to narrow it down to just one thing…..family, husband, a chance to run my own business. Difficult to truly narrow it down to just one.
Glen Craig of Free From Broke: I’m thankful for an awesome family that puts up with my being locked behind a computer for so long and also for a lifestyle that still allows me to spend so much time with them. I’m also thankful for family and friends (online too) and grateful for the roof over our heads.
Feel free to add your own personal gratitude list in the comments.
