Working Together to Spread Empowering Messages On Money and Financial Security

By Martha Boudreau, EVP and Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, AARP

At AARP, our mission is to empower people to choose how they live as they age. Understanding how people value financial security for themselves and their families is critical, and AARP creates and distributes content daily that gives people tools and resources to achieve their goals. In the #FinCon19 spirit of spreading positive messages about money, our two organizations have a lot in common!

All of you as content creators, bloggers and influencers know that people often face financial challenges throughout their lives – and they can come with little warning. For some, it may be getting advice on how to save enough money to send a child through college or adjusting the percentage of your income to boost a retirement account. For others, it may be taking the big leap to open your own business, start a second career (or side hustle), or to help parents age with enough financial stability to live where and how they want.

Our 38 million members rely on AARP for trusted financial resources, information and tools to help navigate the complexities of life’s transitions—from caregiving to saving for retirement to protecting themselves or loved ones from fraud. We sponsor #FinCon19 because we want to work with you to create content and reach even more people to help them navigate life’s transitions.

We look forward to meeting many of you at #FinCon19, and hearing about how your work is shaping the public conversation about how people can take charge of their finances and move toward financial security. We also look forward to telling you more about our newest programs, including our robust Social Security Resource Center with information in English and Spanish; our newest podcast with AARP Financial Ambassador Jean Chatzky called Closing the Savings Gap™ and, how to ace your retirement.

We also have a new tool debuting soon that helps you deal with unexpected financial shocks – whether from medical bills, home or auto expenses or another unforeseen event. This free tool, available to anyone regardless of age, pulls a range of resources together in one website to help with a personalized plan to tackle those unexpected bills.

Drop by our Presenting Sponsor Booth (#420) at #FinCon19 and let’s chat about how we can work together to spread an empowering message for everyone who is confronting financial challenges in their lives—and let’s face it – that’s all of us! And connect with me on Twitter @MarthaBoudreau.
