Our Biggest FinCon Local Group, Atlanta, Meets to Kick Off 2013
This post was contributed by Atlanta FinCon Local leader, Andrea Amir.
Our January 31st meetup marks the 8th time the Atlanta financial bloggers have gotten together since the end of the first FinCon. In the beginning we would meet about once quarter, now our meetups are about every 6 weeks.
The bloggers that regularly attend our meetups are:
- Kyle from Amateur Asset Allocator
- Paula from Afford Anything
- Trevor from Fusion Taxes
- Latisha from Young Finances
- Tushar from Everything Finance
- Andrea from Smart Money Chicks
- Lauren from L Bee and The Money Tree
- Alok from Smart Path Financial
- Sheena from She Will
Several other new and aspiring bloggers that have heard about FinCon from the Blogosphere come out to see what we are all about. Our largest meetup so far was 15.
The Atlanta financial blogging community is growing, with each meet up bringing out new people. I think having the local meetups make a difference in the experience we have at the Conference. If you attended locally, when you go to the conference you already have a connection with someone so it becomes less intimidating. In Denver, some of the Atlanta-based bloggers managed to catch a few meals together, share a crazy cab ride, and two of our bloggers now do a podcast together.
For the most part we have decided not to have structure. We look forward to seeing each other, sharing what is working on our sites and our upcoming projects. The conversations are always insightful, funny and sometimes a little wild.
In the future we will have meetups on a few Saturdays to accommodate more bloggers schedules. All the details are posted with the #fincon13 hashtag on Twitter.
