Finding the Perfect Conference Location
Finding a specific location for the conference has proven to be more difficult that previously estimated. With the help of a search firm, specifically, Carolyn from HelmsBriscoe, I’ve spent the last three weeks narrowing down hotels in the Downtown area of Chicago that can suit our needs.
At the same time, I’ve been talking with sponsors and attendees to gauge the level of interest in this event. The number of people attending and the number of sponsors involved have a lot to do with where we have this thing. As does the cost of the hotel, which brings me to my next point.
The National Association of Convenience Stores is conveniently (the irony!) having a huge conference the same weekend as ours. As a result, most conference hotel rates in Downtown are over $175 a night, even at discounted group rates.
I was trying to do some different things to bring those rates down to our ideal level, but it just hasn’t worked out. So, in order to stay within the $100-125 price point I had originally promised to some of you, I’m going to switch gears and search for a space outside of Downtown.
My first choice is a hotel/conference center combo that will allow us to keep travel expenses low and maximize networking time. This search will take some more time. Likely at least until next Friday, the 8th. Thanks for understanding.
