Consumer Financial Banking Trends: An Interview with Ally’s Vinoo Vijay
Vinoo Vijay is the Global Brand & Product Marketing Executive at Ally.
He will be giving a talk entitled, “Industry Perspective from Ally Bank” during the conference. I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say to our group.
I thought it would be a good idea to do a little Q&A with Vinoo before the conference so you guys can get to know more about him and learn something new about our wonderful Gold Sponsor, Ally. Be sure to find Vinoo at the conference (maybe during the Ally sponsored happy hour on Saturday) and thank him for his support.
Here’s our interview:
1. Why be a part of this conference?
Vinoo: We believe in the value that the financial blogging community provides to help consumers make informed choices. The more knowledgeable and discerning consumers are when choosing their financial providers, the better Ally Bank tends to do.
2. What are some of the more important financial-related changes/trends you see consumers dealing with in the next two or three years?
Vinoo: Historically in banking, having a branch nearby was an indicator of convenience. Not necessarily so anymore. Arguably the greater indication of convenience (and customer satisfaction) is how easily can you reach your bank? It turns out today it’s often harder to reach the bank around the corner. The ability to reach a live person at your bank 24/7, combined with the power of accessing money at any ATM, and depositing checks from your home is increasingly how convenience is going to be defined.
3. What are some of the more exciting things that you see Ally Bank doing for their customers in the next year?
Vinoo: Our focus and energies are on being the most customer-centric bank there is. How all that can manifest we don’t know. But we do know there are plenty of consumer pain points with banking, and we’re actively looking at each of them to find ways that we can construct our experience to reduce them.
4. If you had a personal blog focused on financial matters, what would you write about and why?
Vinoo: I am most curious and constantly inspired by the depth and clarity of thought that I read in financial services blogs today. I tend to be a consumer more than a creator in this regard. But if I were to write something, it would be about the the blogs themselves and the impact they are already having in the way consumers understand and use financial services – and the rapid pace at which this shift is going on.
