Adaptu: Our Experience as a Sponsor at #FinCon11
This is a special post from Jenna at Adaptu, who shares her experience as a sponsor of last year’s conference.
With #FinCon12 just three months away, the Adaptu team has been gearing up for another great conference experience.
While all this preparation is happening around the office, I find myself reflecting often on just how amazing FinCon11 really was as a sponsor. The two biggest things that pop into my head are the Love Drop in support of Phil’s Friends and the in person connections made over the weekend.
I’ve been to my share of conferences over the past couple years and to date, there is no better way to break the ice and really get to know people from all over the country (and world) than helping out others.
I spent the entire afternoon of the Love Drop sitting around a table with a dozen other bloggers addressing labels that would be sent out to hundreds of cancer patients.
Over those first couple of “pre-conference” hours I got to know many people quickly – where they were from, their reason for coming to FinCon and what they hoped to accomplish with their work.
Sponsor Tip: Get involved with the conference (more than just sponsoring a lunch) and do what the conference attendees are doing. Make it meaningful. Adaptu had worked with the Love Drop team on a previous “drop” so it was a natural fit for us to get involved in this one.
What sort of space can your company create at FinCon12? (I also really enjoyed the “speed dating” event. It gave me a chance to chat with bloggers who couldn’t make it to the Love Drop.)
Let’s be honest, emails can only go so far. There is nothing quite like having a face to face conversation with someone you had interacted with online for years. I think we all see this as a key reason Philip created FinCon.
At Adaptu, we recognize that the financial blogging community is a great way to share tools and content to help consumers understand and manage their money better.
Thanks to our deep engagement with bloggers, we have a pulse on what our users are going through and trying to deal with when it comes to money.
At FinCon, as a sponsor, you get the chance to meet bloggers, network with other financial companies, get hugs, talk (and dance) with everyone all in one location.
When you can put a face to a name to a website, it makes it so much easier to talk about business. When you can share an experience and a laugh you bond in a way that not even the best email can get across.
Sponsor Tip: It is well worth having a booth presence to make it easy for people to find you. Having a booth (with the Adaptu backdrop) made it so easy for people to come up and talk to Liz and I. (Granted we are both under 5’2″ so having a towering Adaptu backdrop helped people find us faster than we could find them). It served as a good meeting spot between panels, and gave people the chance to ask specific questions about your site. Plus, lots of the video bloggers used the banner as a background for their interviews.
Overall, it was a great weekend. I learned more about my friends and the industry that I could have ever done just reading about it. I want to thank Philip, once again, for putting on a great conference last year!
Clearly it was a great success or he wouldn’t be doing it again this year! I’m excited to announce that Adaptu will return as a FinCon sponsor this year. I look forward to seeing or meeting you in Denver.
