7 Reasons Why You Should Record a Podcast Interview on Your iPhone at FinCon14
Editor’s Note: Here’s a contribution from Shawn Smith, The Mobile Pro.
Have you ever dreamed of being able to record a quick interview on your iPhone at a conference, trade-show, or meeting? I have…for years. Can you imagine…recording 10-12 podcast interviews, all in-person, with key leaders in your niche, in less than 3 days? What if you did, and as a result, you were offered, say… a joint venture, two guest webinars, four offers to be a guest on podcasts, and an offer to write a guest blog post for a world-class conference in your niche? This is what happened to me…3 weeks ago! It happened at the first annual Podcast Movement Conference in Dallas, TX (AWESOME conference by the way).
How? Because I contacted potential guests through the event’s community pages a week before the event, and I brought a pro-quality mobile podcast set-up with me – in my backpack! (that’s it on the floor, in the photo above between me and Natalie).
(To hear audio clips recorded on my iPhone of interviews and promos with Natalie Sisson, Cliff Ravenscraft, Lou Mongello, Ray Ortega, Dan Franks, and our own Philip Taylor, go here)
I have attended 3 awesome conferences in the past year (Platform Conference, NMX Live, Podcast Movement) and now next week…FinCon. I can’t wait! Attending conferences has helped me network, and connect with key people in my niche more than any other step in building my online platform.

In fact, I was invited to share this blog post, because of an interview I conducted at PM14 just last month! (Thank you, P.T.!)
After we wrapped the interview, we talked off-mic a bit – about music, etc., and then…as an afterthought…he mentioned how he wished more people at FinCon would create content on-site (blogging, podcasting, vlogging). I said I think I can help…
I don’t believe that conversation with P.T. would have happened on a Skype interview. I really don’t.
Skype is an amazing, invaluable interview tool. However, nothing beats the power of a live, in-person, one-on-one interview – both on-mic, and off.
Here’s 7 reasons why you should record a podcast interview on your iPhone at FinCon14 next week: (even if you don’t have a podcast)
1. You can knock out 10-15 Podcast Interviews in 2-3 days – that’s 2-3 months of high-quality, high-value weekly content!
2. You can secure on-the-spot interviews – with Keynote Speakers, Session Leaders, Event Organizers, and leaders in your niche – many that you might not get by phone or Skype.
3. You’ll learn a ton, they’ll benefit from you promoting them, and they’ll remember your name afterwards. This creates a much stronger bond than a business card swap
4. If you have an iPhone or iOS device, you already have a pro-quality recording studio in your pocket! No need for lots of expensive, complicated recording equipment – and no extra batteries, and chargers.
5. Killer new, cheap, simple, pro-quality apps are available NOW (i.e. BossJock Studio is one of my favorites)
7. Your audience loves to take road trips – take them with you! You can feel the excitement, and buzz – both in the room, and in the voices of you and your guests.
Don’t put it off until the next conference or event…do it now!
If you have an iPhone or iOS device, for about $100 more, you can get a pro-quality mic and be in the big-leagues! (really! And it’s NOT that complicated. See my link below.)
